The Big Freeze

They're calling it a "rent freeze."

Sounds nice, doesn't it? Like a cool drink on a hot day. But it's poison. It's a dagger to the heart of the market.

They want to stop rents from going up. For a million apartments. They think this will solve the problem.

They're wrong.

New York's housing is already a disaster. A socialist experiment gone wrong. Rampant mismanagement. Decay. Corruption.

And this new plan? It's more of the same. On steroids. A hundred billion dollars to build more government housing. More control. More failure.

The Illusion of "Public" Housing

They call it "public housing."

But it's not for the public. It's for a select few. People who get lucky. People who win a lottery.

Half a million people live in these buildings. And the buildings? They're falling apart. 

Seventy-eight billion in repairs needed. Broken elevators. Leaky pipes. Rodents everywhere.

One-third of these apartments have rodents. Think about that. Twice the rate of private housing.

This is what happens when the government plays landlord. They're terrible at it. They always are.

Here's the kicker. Thirty percent of residents are "overhoused." Single people living in three-bedroom apartments. For decades. Some for over forty years.

Why? Because the rent is artificially cheap. So they never leave. They never downsize. They just sit there. Taking up space that families need.

It's inefficient. It's wasteful. It's socialism.

The Real Victims

Who gets hurt the most?

The small property owners. The immigrants. The people who saved and scraped to buy a small building.

Their costs go up. Taxes. Insurance. Repairs. But their income is frozen.

They're squeezed. They're crushed.

Two hundred thousand apartments already don't generate enough income to cover basic costs. That number will grow. Exponentially.

And for what? So a politician can get a round of applause. So a few people can live in cheap apartments while others are locked out.

A ninety-nine-year-old landlord was beaten and robbed recently. Just for trying to collect rent. That's the reality.

It's a scam.

The Bronx is Burning, Again

This has happened before.

In the 70s, the Bronx burned. Landlords, squeezed by rent control, saw their buildings as worthless. So they burned them. For the insurance money.

It was a disaster. A tragedy.

And now, they're setting the stage for it to happen all over again. The 2019 law made things worse. Much worse. Buildings are falling into disrepair. Owners are walking away.

History repeats itself. First as tragedy. Then as farce.

The Hunger Games

New York housing is now a game of musical chairs.

When the music stops, grab a seat. Any seat. And never let go.

The lucky few win. Everyone else loses. Newcomers with talent and ambition? Locked out. Unless they have a trust fund.

This isn't a housing market. It's a rigged lottery.
