Dear Reader,
$186 BILLION.
That is what the federal government "improperly paid" last year. Not "lost." Not "stolen." Improperly paid. That is the polite phrase they use when they have no idea where the money went.
This is not a small accounting error. It is more than the entire annual GDP of Hungary. Gone. In one fiscal year.
Inside today's issue:
- The $186 billion number. Why the real figure is almost certainly higher. And who benefits from keeping it vague.
- Medicare and Medicaid alone: $94 billion. That is two full years of DOGE savings claims gone from just two programs.
- What history says happens next when governments lose control of their own books. And what you can still do about it.
- Larry Benedict just released a new presentation on a strategy called "Oil Skimming." It's worth a look.
Here is what the mainstream press is saying about this.
They are calling it a "reporting improvement." A sign that government transparency is getting better. Because some of the increase came from agencies that did not report before.
I call it something else.
$3 trillion. That is how much the federal government has "improperly paid" since 2003. Twenty-three years. Republican administrations. Democrat administrations. Every audit. Every reform. Every Inspector General.
$3 trillion gone.
Here is the breakdown they buried in the footnotes.
Medicare alone: $57 billion in improper payments last year. Medicaid: $37 billion. Together, that is $94 billion. In a single year. From two programs that have been running for six decades.
The government knows who runs these programs. They know who gets the money. They have databases. They have 64 programs and 15 agencies reporting to Congress on this exact issue.
And still. $186 billion gone.
My poor dad worked for the government his entire life. He believed in the system. He believed the people in charge had a handle on things.
He was wrong.
Here is what nobody is saying out loud. This $186 billion is what they admit. The GAO is explicit: these estimates do not include programs that did not report. They do not include fraud that was not detected. The real number is higher. Maybe much higher.
Between 2018 and 2022 alone, the federal government lost an estimated $233 to $521 billion per year to outright fraud. That is from the GAO's own fraud risk study. A range that wide means they genuinely do not know. They are guessing at their own theft.

Here is what history says happens next.
Every empire that lost control of its books eventually lost control of its currency. Rome did it with coin clipping. Weimar Germany did it with the printing press. The mechanism changes. The outcome does not.
The United States has "improperly paid" $3 trillion since 2003. The response has always been the same: a new committee, a new acronym, a new promise.
DOGE claimed billions in savings. The GAO reported improper payments up $24 billion from last year. The federal deficit is still over $1.3 trillion. Spending rose in FY 2025, not fell.
I am not surprised. I have been watching this cycle for 50 years.
My rich dad had a rule. When you cannot trust the institution, you trust the asset. Hard assets do not have accounting errors. Gold cannot be "improperly paid." Silver does not disappear into a government database. Real estate does not evaporate because a bureaucrat forgot to check a box.
The government has lost $3 trillion since 2003. They have not stopped. They will not stop. The question is not whether fiscal incompetence at this scale debases the currency. It will. The question is whether you are holding something real when it does.
Gold. Silver. Real assets. The B and I quadrant. That is the escape hatch.
Not politics. Not hoping the next audit fixes it. The asset.
To your freedom,
