A Rare Victory for Capitalism: The Day Common Sense Won

Dear Reader,

I spend a lot of time talking about the collapse of California.

  • California politicians tried to pass the BASED Act, a bill designed to punish successful tech platforms like Amazon and Google.

  • The real victims wouldn't have been Big Tech. The victims would have been the 2.2 million small businesses in California that rely on free Google tools to survive.

  • For once, common sense won. The California State Senate killed the bill in a 3-3 vote.

  • The New York Times predicted it “will unleash gushers of cash for Silicon Valley and Wall Street.” And Elon Musk is predicting this investment could jump 1,000x higher from here

The taxes are insane. The regulations are suffocating. The middle class is fleeing to Texas and

Florida as fast as they can pack a U-Haul.

It is easy to write the state off as a lost cause.

But my rich dad always taught me to look for the exceptions. Look for the moments when the system pushes back.

And on April 20th, something incredible happened in California.

Capitalism actually won a fight.

The BASED Act Scam

The politicians in Sacramento tried to pull a fast one.

They introduced Senate Bill 1074. They called it the BASED Act.

They claimed it was about stopping "anticompetitive" behavior by dominant tech platforms.

It sounds good, right? Everyone hates monopolies.

But you have to look past the marketing. You have to look at the math.

The bill was designed to force companies like Amazon and Google to completely change how

they list products.

It would have forced them to give prominent placement to unpopular, suspect brands. It would

have opened the door to massive, frivolous lawsuits.

It was a shakedown. Pure and simple.

The Real Victims

The politicians wanted you to think they were attacking Big Tech.

They weren't. They were attacking small business.

More than 2.2 million businesses in California use Google’s free tools. They use them to get phone calls, bookings, and reviews. They use them to survive.

During the hearings, an immigrant entrepreneur named Jarek Sobe testified. He co-founded

Lucky Feet Shoes. He stood up and told the truth.

He said the bill might help a massive corporation like Yelp compete against Google. But it would destroy him.

It would force him to pay more money just to get noticed.

That is the reality of government regulation.

The politicians claim they are protecting the little guy.

But their rules always end up crushing the little guy and protecting the connected insiders.

The European Disaster

We already know how this movie ends.

The European Union passed a similar law called the Digital Markets Act.

It was a disaster. It made familiar searches confusing. It made the internet slower and harder to use.

The California senators looked at the European mess. T

They looked at the security threats of forcing platforms to accept unvetted sellers.

They realized that half of their constituents use Amazon Prime, and this bill was going to ruin it.

So, they did something shocking.

They killed the bill. The committee voted 3-3, and the measure died.

The Fight Isn't Over

This is a massive victory for free markets.

It proves that innovation and competition are still in California's DNA, even if the politicians try to regulate it out of existence.

But do not get comfortable.

The elites never stop. Right now, politicians in Washington D.C. are looking at passing the exact same scam at the national level.

They call it the America Innovation and Choice Online Act.

It is the same garbage, just with a different name.

You have to wake up. You have to understand how capitalism actually works.

Prosperity does not come from government mandates. It comes from entrepreneurs solving problems. It comes from free markets.

When the government tries to "fix" the market, they are usually just trying to steal your money or your convenience.

Stay sharp. Protect your assets. And never trust a politician who says they are here to help.
